A question on " 1975 "
by The ini was reading some of the first " topics " on this db and i noticed that a few former elders and publishers .
were stumbled by this date.... i was born after 1975 and i'd really appreciate any comments from brothers and sisters who were around .
what i've noticed from personal experience is that many brothers and sisters feel that only " a few " were stumbeled .

I was 13 in 1975 having been born into d troof.
I remember that a wealthy brother from a neighbouring cong |('millionaire Bob', or 'jet lag Bob', as he had always just flown in from somewhere or other just before the meeting),sold everything he had, gave up his job and even bought a minibus to transport everyone round the territory to make sure 'all those that wanted to could be given a chance to side with Jehoovah before the end came'.
Anyway 1975 came and went and 'jet lag Bob' left d troof, got another job and was a millionaire again within a year. How cool was that?!
Another thing I remember is being a good theocratic boy I let everyone at school know that I was a Witless. However one of the kids had found out about the 1975 end of the world thing - he said to me that on January 1st 1976 he was gonna come round my house and laugh and laugh and laugh again! However how relieved I was when my dad was asked to move congo's to help out where the need was greater - we moved away towards the end of 1975. I still wonder to this day about how embarrassed I would have been had that kid carried out what he had threatened to do!
I got d'fed 4 years ago. Looking back I remember wishing I was 'part of the world' in the '70s. Many wasted years trying to please parents and Jehoopla have flown under the bridge.
Anyway I am really happy now. -

now i'm in my forties and finally free of the witto's, sonething strange has happened. i always used to think that i had a good balanced upbringing in the 'truth'. however now i realise that i didn't. i wasn't allowed to listen to worldy 'pop' or even worse, 'rock' music when i was growing up in the 70's. guess what - now i can't get enough of that kind of music, especially the 70's stuff. the most ridiculous thing though was my haircut - how i longed to have the long hair that everybody in those days had. but no, my mum and dad didn't want me to follow worldy trends so i had to have short back and sides - what a stupid haircut! now i would like to play in a rock band and have wild long hair. problem is my employers would not like it. my point is that my parents thought they were protecting me from satan and it's taken me 30 years to realise they were being brainwashed.

Hi Soapydish my wife bubble and i went to the memorial twice after we were df'ed. we went to a cong where no one knew us. it was a bit wierd. anyway the next year we went again and were stopped by a sugar coated elder on the way out. didn't know whether to puke or laugh outloud. he put us right off going again. in fact last year was the first time in the whole of both of our lives that we didn't go - what a relief! my wife has been invited this year, i haven't yet. we are definitley not going. when i was a witto i hated those that just came to the memorial and that was it for another year. i thought yeah you are gonna be saved - NOT!

we absolutely hated being wittos and knew we wanted to get out and be with each other but as i'm sure you know that is easier said than done. our whole families are wittos and all our friends too. eventually our affair was discovered by bubble's husband reading her text messages! that was the push we needed to finally face up to what we were doing and to face the elders. we were happily disfellowshipped and knew that we didn't want to repent, but our families live in hope that we will go back. that's never gonna happen!! we have learnt so much about the organisation from sights such as this that we are so disgusted with the religion we once believed was the 'truth'.

thanks for your message of support lisa! we were secretly seeing each other for 8 years. during that time i was regularly giving public talks as a ministerial servant, taking the lead in field service and was the congregations best watchtower reader. however whilst i was on the platform reading a paragraph about david and bathsheba i had a panic attack and had to excuse myself and sit down. everyone was really supportive - if only they knew! my ex wife was a real burden - never went on field service, would never answer up, didn't like them using our house for field service or for the group study. still thought she was a real witness though. since our divorce she has fallen away as one by one her friends deserted her. anyway enough about that episode in my life - now i am super happy with a lovely wife, my chidren also don't go to the meetings any more. it's such a shame that intelligent people like my parents cannot see how enslaved they are.

hi everyone this is my first post! Got d'fed 4 years ago for liking/loving another ministerial servants wife. Happily married to her now! Really glad I am out of the organisation now. Was bought up in the 'truth'. Mum and Dad haven't spoken to me for 4 years - that hurts but it is their loss. Don't miss one bit of being a Dub - realise now that even the friendships were false. Spending lots of quality time with my wife, travelling to different parts of the world as much as we can. Visited New York recently - strange how I felt compelled to see 'Bethel'. Have done some interesting research on the Witto's and the most disturbing thing for me was not all the money they have, but the fact that they mis-quote other peoples work to justify their own ludicrous doctrines. Anyway it's nice to join this forum. Hello world!
